Stephen took up the Imperial leadership of IDE in 2019. He is a Principal Teaching Fellow in the Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London with over 30 years’ experience in design consultancy and higher education. At the Dyson School he has had a strategic role in developing the Design Engineering subject area within one of the World’s leading science and technology institutions.

As a design consultant, Stephen was part of the team designing and obtaining worldwide patents for the World’s first large scale production of injection moulded suitcases for Samsonite, which have subsequently sold in millions. Stephen was previously a Client Director at Fitch, part of the WPP group and one of the largest global design consultancies.

Together with the IDE teams at the RCA and Imperial Stephen is currently leading a deep review of the IDE programme and developing the vision for the next 10 years – building on the illustrious track record of the past 40 years.
