08 AIDEA: Liberate Your Creativity

AIDEA is an AI-led visual discovery environment.

Its intuitive ideation experience uses collage to help designers discover new and sometimes unexpected ways of looking at form, palette and function in their design projects.

AIDEA’s AI personalities provide the user with a unique sequence of components (fragmented images) based on their personal characteristics. The components are produced in a sequence designed to challenge the user, helping them to break through design fixation and creative block. The composite images users create with AIDEA’s personalities are used as inspiration for their projects.

AIDEA was developed through an experiment-driven research project on the nature of human/AI relationships.

AIDEA is used during the ideation phase of a design project after initial brainstorming. AIDEA sets the user a task related to their design brief and offers them components to build an output. The components are offered in a sequence that provokes the user to view their brief from new perspectives, allowing them to come up with ideas they could not think of previously. Outputs from collaborations with AIDEA can then be developed through sketching, modeling, and prototyping.
